With the Linear Steel Series, designer Thomas Bentzen set out to reinterpret traditional wooden outdoor furniture through a new material language. Drawing inspiration from classic oak tables, he translated their simplicity and attention to detail into steel.

Meetings of lines, shapes and materials

That idea of translation runs through the entire series. Bentzen describes the design as being shaped by the notion of meetings — meetings of lines, shapes and materials — resulting in a form language that feels refined yet understated.

Thomas Bentzen “The Linear Steel Series was designed from the idea of presenting durable materials in a sophisticated and understated expression for outdoor use,” he says.

These meetings are expressed through the series’ structural intent. Straight lines establish a contemporary yet timeless character, while details such as folded edges, half-circular intersecting legs, and narrow spacing between slats create cohesion across the collection. Together, these subtle gestures translate elegance, longevity, and functionality into modern outdoor furniture.

“The design is defined by its straight lines for a contemporary yet timeless aesthetic through the details of its folded edges, half-circular intersecting legs and small spacing for easy outflow of water. It is through these subtle elements that the Linear Steel Series translates the values of elegance, longevity and functionality into modern outdoor furniture,” Bentzen ends.
